After practicing as an RN for awhile many people later decide they want more out of their career. Maybe they only earned an associate’s degree in nursing and they are looking at their options. There are many, some including earning another degree. One of the quickest ways to help you advance your career is to complete an accelerated nursing degree program. If you are currently working as an RN there are a couple degrees you may wish to consider depending on your career goals. The first and most common are accelerated bsn programs. Unlike the days of past, there are many of these types of programs available now from several schools. Some of these programs will allow you to complete your BSN degree in 18 months are less. These are not necessarily easy to do and they will take a major commitment from you, but may be well worth it. If you plan to go into management then this may a great option to help you advance your career. The accelerated option is generally faster to finish then a more traditional rn to bsn degree program. If you have other goals, such as maybe returning to college or university as a teacher then maybe an accelerated MSN degree would be a better choice. Yes most people have heard about the nursing shortage and many think only about the nurses needed to work with patients. But who is going to do the training for these nurses? Teachers of course! That likely means demand for nursing educators is going to grow as well. If you are considering this type of a career transition then take some time to learn more about MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) programs. If you are not currently an RN (Registered Nurse) and you want to become one then accelerated nursing schools may or may not be an option for you to consider at this time. If you have no college such as if you are in high school or recently graduated then this option is not likely a good choice. However if you already have a bachelor’s degree in another career field and you wish to change to become an rn then there are schools with accelerated programs that may work for your needs. You may then want to consider earning a second bachelor’s degree in nursing which is typically called a BSN degree or Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree. Or since you already have a non nursing bachelor degree you may also want to consider earning your MSN (Master of Science In Nursing Degree). As you can see you have many programs to choose from with some being a more direct path to becoming a nurse and others geared towards current RNs wanting to accelerate or advance their career. Check with all schools of interest to find out which option is best. |
